Former USF Player Cards 11-Under 60 On LPGA Tour

Published: Sep 27, 2004

AUBURN, Calif. - Anna Acker- Macosko, a former University of South Florida golfer, shot an 11-under-par 60 on Sunday at the Longs Drugs Challenge, one stroke off Annika Sorenstam's LPGA tour record.

It was the second round of 60 this year. Jung Yeon Lee had a 60 on the par-70 course in Tucson, Ariz., during the first event of the season.

Playing on the par-71 course at The Ridge Golf Club, Acker- Macosko started her round with two straight birdies and had five on the front side and six on the back in finishing in a tie for fifth place.

Acker-Macosko walked to the 18th green with a chance for one more birdie and a share of the tour record. But the downhill 30-foot putt broke right of the hole, and she made a short putt for par.

``It was a straight putt and I was reading it to break,'' said Acker-Macosko, who left a 23- foot putt short on No. 17.

Acker-Macosko, 117th on the money list entering the week, has missed 12 of 21 cuts this year and has just one top- 10 finish.

The tourney winner was Christina Kim, who made a charge on the back nine, shooting 6-under 65 for a one- shot victory over Karrie Webb.

Kim, who recorded her first LPGA victory, made five birdies on the back side in finishing with an 18-under 266.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
