Release: 08/14/2008

TAMPA - The University of South Florida men’s soccer team is ranked No. 11 in the College Soccer News preseason national poll, the media outlet recently announced.

“This poll also serves as great motivation where we are ranked†states USF head coach, George Kiefer. The Bulls are also ranked No. 18 in the NSCAA/adidas preseason national poll and are picked to win the Red Division of the BIG EAST.

The Bulls will face four teams that are in the 2008 CSN preseason poll, including BIG EAST opponents Notre Dame (15), and Louisville (21). USF will also face Maryland (3) in an exhibition game and Indiana (4) in the regular season.

USF ended 2007 with a showing in the Sweet 16 and ended the season 14-6-2. USF returns nine starters including senior defender Yohance Marshall, who is picked to the preseason BIG EAST defender. Also returning are senior midfielder Kevon Neeves and senior forward Jordan Seabrook, who were selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team.

The Bulls kick off the season on Saturday, Aug. 16, in an exhibition game with the University of Tampa for the Rowdies’ Cup at 7:30 p.m. at Pepin Stadium. The Bulls will continue the exhibition slate at Pepin Stadium when they face the Venezuela Under-17 National team on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. A trip to Maryland on Aug. 22 will finalize the exhibition schedule. The regular season begins Aug. 30 when the Bulls host Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m.

11.  South Florida -  George Kiefer has indicated that the Bulls will focus on taking it one game at a time.  If they do that and maintain the level of intensity on the road that they display at home they will be a very tough side to face in 2008.  USF returns nine starters including defender Yohance Marshall, midfielder Kevon Neeves and forward Jordan Seabrook.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
