USF football: Where we stand

Firts of all, let me say that I haven't felt this low about USF football in a long time, if ever. USF Sports Depression Meter: (1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10)

Maybe there's thruth in it, or not.

(1) This was probably our "Bowl Game" this year:

A) Playing a good opponent with a prominent coach

B) Large crowd: 78900

C) $450,000 payout to USF

(2) Momentum is a big factor in a college football game.

One example:

(A) Firts quarter, 4th play, we just got the ball back and then we give it back on a roughing-the-kicker penalty.

(B) 5th play, they throw a 56-yard bomb: TD

We never had any momentum is this game.

(3) If something is broken, it has to be fixed or replaced.

We had anemic offense last year. The coaching staff tried to fix it all of last year and in the off-season. This year things didn't work against a I-AA team, and it didn't work against USC: It's broken!

(4) Our Bulls need our support right now.

We fans are not in good shape after such a game. But what about the players? They need our support more than ever.

The Team

The Defense:

We still have the trade marks of dumb penalties and undisciplined actions. But I think we are fine as long as the unit can gel and mature with each game. There's a reason a lot of freshmen do not start in college: they lack the experience necessary...

The Offense:

We have a good line, good receivers, and arguably the best RBs ever at USF. But in all of that, our offense is still designed around the shoutgun and gambling on the QB's arm. How many more games to see that this is the wrong approach?

Here's a thought: What if Pat and Ronnie are not as bad as we think they are, just that they are in the wrong system for the kind of QB-talent that they possess?

The Coaching Staff.

First of all, they are our coaching staff and they need our support. That being said, there needs to be some adjustments made on the way things operate. You do 'X' and you get 'Y': We can see distinct patterns in how USF plays. Why not change some things and see if we get positive results?

The rest of the season.

We have a lot of talent on this team, and we have a very good coaching staff, so everything is not in the crapper. But how things fare the rest of the way depends on changes to be implimented, not magic.

Use the same strategy and same game plan, we will be lucky to break .500.

---GO BULLS!

Good thoughts in general, BB... just a comment on this:

...

Here's a thought: What if Pat and Ronnie are not as bad as we think they are, just that they are in the wrong system for the kind of QB-talent that they possess?

RB threw several passes down the field that floated ... one was called "the worst pass ever".  RB had a few problems with dropped passes (blame the WRs), and he threw into the flat a lot (blame the OC).

PJ's first pass attempt landed several yards short of a wide open tight end.  He wasn't pressured - he just threw it into the ground.  There were several other passes that were behind or over the intended receiver.

Overall, RB is better than PJ - but neither of them are doing well.  The QB Coach (Smith) needs to work with them in more realistic game situations.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
