In the NFL.  He will most likely go somewere as a QB in the NFL but will most likely never start or alot of times not make it.  But with his speed, strength and just will to play, anyone know what other position he has a shot at in the NFL?

Unfortunately, he isnt big enough to play anywhere, except maybe corner and you don't have a lot of college QB's turning into corners like you do in the transition from High School to College.

Doubt it. Not tall or fast enough in my opinion.

Grothe has said before that he'll be happy teaching high school and coaching football.

Honestly, I don't think he'll even try for the NFL.

John Lynch ran a 4.64 coming out of college...not exactly lightning.  I imagine Gorthe could deliver a vicious hit if asked to.  Who knows? I'm just glad he's USFs QB now.

Don't forget the possibility of playing in the CFL.

if i'm not mistaken, he was recruited by other schools like Florida and South Carolina as a safety, but chose USF because it was the only school that offered him an opportunity at QB.

that said, there are a few NFL free safeties listed as smaller than Grothe...  the Lions Gerald Alexander is 6'0, 204--- the Colts Antoine Bethea is 5'11, 203--- Rams OJ Atogwe is 5'11, 210....

Grothe is listed at 6'0, 213... but i'd bet he's more like 5'11 or 5'10.  the Hokies' Marcus Vick went undrafted but found a spot on the Dolphins' roster as a WR at 5'10-5'11 (don't think he's still there, or ever played a game tho, but he wasn't nearly as good as Grothe, with far more downside).

depending on how the next 2 years of his college career go, i wouldn't be surprised if he finds a spot on an NFL roster or scout team, most likely at WR or FS.  whether he'll see playing time, i don't know.

IMO, he's talented enough for the League, but there's so much emphasis on size that he might not get his foot in the door... but the NFL is not the only option for pro ball... he could easily be a star in the CFL or AFL if he wanted to go that route.  or, as someone said, he could go into coaching.

i'm sure whatever it is Grothe will be succesful in whatever he does after college.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
