What is the highest WVU has ever been in the AP poll?

Well ... the AP Poll goes back to 1936 - so it's hard to look that far back...

The highest they've been under Rodriguez was #3 last year... and they were #3 back in 1988 (when they finished 5th) and 1993 (when they finished 7th)...

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_Mountaineers_football:

West Virginia's highest coach or AP ranking has been #3, (following the 1988 regular season, Week 10 of 2006, and the 2007 preseason.)

WVU has been Conference champions twelve times (8 in the Southern Conference, four in the Big East Conference). West Virginia's highest coach or AP ranking has been #3,

Again, APPollArchive.com has AP poll data going back to 1936.

This was already posted a while back -- the highest any current Big East team has been ranked is #3. Pitt and Syracuse have both been ranked #1 (30 years ago or so) but that was before the Big East existed/had football. Obviously former Big East teams like Miami have been ranked #1.

Actually, they finished 5th in 1988... and were also #3 during the last two weeks of 1993.

Sometimes, kids, Wikipedia doesn't have everything....

;D ;)  ;D

During the week of 11/29/1988 they were ranked #3. Just checked with http://appollarchive.com/football/ap/seasons.cfm?appollid=650 They dropped to #5 in the rankings after losing their final game of the season. Wikipedia is good to us lazy folk looking for a quick answer ;)

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
