computers have us clear cut #1.  **** coaches and harris!!

What exactly is the harris poll anyway??

A couple of years ago the AP asked not to be associated with the BCS because, in a word, its a sham.  They switched to Harris.

I thought it was becuase the AP would not be associated unless they released each coaches poll to show how they voted like they do with reporters. Which I thought was also the reason why ESPN elected to no longer associate themselves with the Coaches poll and why they use the AP when showing ranks.

The AP said such use was never sanctioned and had reached the point where it threatened to undermine the independence and integrity of the poll.

The AP sent BCS coordinator Kevin Weiberg a cease-and-desist letter, dated Dec. 21, stating that use of the poll is unlawful and harms the AP's reputation.

.....

"By stating that the AP poll is one of the three components used by BCS to establish its rankings, BCS conveys the impression that AP condones or otherwise participates in the BCS system," the letter said.

"Furthermore, to the extent that the public does not fully understand the relationship between BCS and AP, any animosity toward BCS may get transferred to AP. And to the extent that the public has equated or comes to equate the AP poll with the BCS rankings, the independent reputation of the AP poll is lost.

Here is what I pulled up.  Basically they didn't want to get blamed when somebody gets the shaft on a bid for the national championship

I'm pleasantly surprised with the ranking. I think that OSU being where they are has a lot more to do with their history than their actual playing this season (sadly) but whatever. Under those same conditions is why you see LSU ranked #4 after losing a game. I think that should be a slap in the face to Florida who barely lost to LSU and dropped like 8 spots. They didn't even play this week and dropped more. If I were a Gator fan (I'm not) I'd be pissed, but that's the "Good ol' Boys" network at work.

In any event, I can't complain with being #2. With that said we just need to concentrate on Rutgers right now. It is a short week for us and we can't lose our momentum. Oh, and for those who are interested we are currently the top story on Fox Sports, check it out:

Enjoy the moment my friends, we are making history each week. :)

P.S. Nice shot of Ms. Sterger Mike.

Here's the deal as I see it...

We need to keep putting up big numbers. If we can destroy RU, UConn, and Cincy, we will be no worse than 2 in the coach's/Harris Polls. Human polls can't let go of tradition. OSU is 5 in the computer polls 5, there is no reason for them to be ahead of us.

If we can get some more human love, we will keep our computer rankings, and move ahead of them. I could be wrong, if AU/WVU start losing, and our SOS gets busted, the computers could turn on us a bit, but we need to get more human votes to at least strengthen our position at No. 2.

My biggest fear (I dont even know what I am saying right now), is that if both OSU and USF go undefeated, and LSU makes it through the SEC championship game without losing again, we will not make it in.

Never in my life did I think I would be trying to figure out just exactly what we need to do to get to No. 1 in the Country from No. 2.

Don't just beat Rutgers, lets pound them into the ground. Weather should be in the 60's, possibly raining. Defense will get in on the scoring. Make it HURT. We are in the second half of the season, I think it is safe to say...FINISH STRONG!

Just curious... has ANY team ever gone from unranked to #1 in a season? (This would be for the AP poll).

Being in the Midwest, where there was no second game on FOX, I got to watch the announcement live.

None of the commentators said anything terribly interesting.

Curt Menefee did most of the talking. He argued that the computers like USF because they'd beaten Auburn and West Virginia, and made the usual argument about the Bulls' body of work.

Johnson made some stupid "computers don't watch football" comment.

Terry Bradshaw compared us to Boise State, but it was more in context of "teams can come out of nowhere and have seasons like this now." He pretended to be enthusiastic about it, though I get the feeling it was his assigned position, a la ESPN. Bradshaw's dumber than a sack of hammers, so I don't take anything he says too seriously.

Jimmy Johnson said something to the effect of "USF has a lot of tough games left, with Rutgers and Louisville." And "the West Virginia game was at home", as if that invalidated it. This from a guy who won a national championship game playing 8 of 12 games at home, including the national title game.

Which also was interesting in that much of the discussion was about how LSU and Ohio State have a relatively light schedule the rest of the way. Nobody pointed out that Ohio State has also had a relatively light schedule so far. Which makes me wonder: if USF-Rutgers and USF-Louisville are hard games, and Ohio State-Michigan, Auburn-LSU and the SEC Championship Game are easy ones, where does that put the "the Big East is light years behind all the real conferences" argument they trot out the rest of the time?

All in all, it's nothing worth getting upset about. If USF continues to win, they will deserve to play in the BCS title game. If they lose a game, they won't. So none of these fool opinions really matters.

As long as we stay in the Top 2, we have no need to worry, we'll get to prove it on the field.

If we lose, we've lost our argument.

If we win, we'll be tough to dislodge.

Just win, Jim.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
