Why couldn't our defense shut FAU down? (Serious question)

Would love to see more of C Rob.  Is he not back to 100%?

I watched it on TV, and only saw us blitz once or twice.  Why didn't Wally send some more players to pressure the QB?  When you only send four guys against  5 or 6 its tough to apply pressure.  Plus the QB was very good about getting rid of the ball quickly.  He had a bunch of short 3 or 5 step drops and the ball was out of his hand before our D Line applied pressure.

Because they often were running a max protect scheme to give the QB time, so we'd drop more men back to cover.  That wasn't always the case, but they did a good job focusing on protection.

Give FAU all the credit you want.

But at the end of the day, my friends, they're still FA-stinkin-U.

Ugly, ugly win.

Sure am glad we ended up with an ugly win instead of an ugly loss, though!

HORRIBLE tackling. Rarery did the first guy with an opportunity to make a tackle, actually make the tackle. We had like zero pressure on the QB. We are lucky to win that game. Their WR dropped as many passes as ours, and that was a lot. They also missed a bunch of FGs, trying to look like us against Auburn.

Simple answer.  Because it's the same old USF team....play at the level of your competition.

It's frustrating to watch, but it is what it is.

I'm just glad we got the W.

We got lucky.

We missed a lot of tackles.

FAU dropped a lot of passes, and their QB missed a lot of easy throws.

FAU got screwed on the kick catch intereference call, which would have given them the ball deep in our territory (and, of course, take that TD off the board), with a chance to take the lead.

We easily could have lost this game, and we cannot continue to play like this.

+1 on the tackling.  Also anyone in the chatroom yesterday knows I was pissed about the holes in the right side of our defensive line.  They had a drive in the third were they could have ran to their left of center every single play and grabbed big yardage.  As it was they ran it back to back for 7 or 8 both times, threw it, then went back to running left of center after seeing the hole three straight times.

Not to make excuses, but I've got to wonder if this didn't have something to do with the facility and Tv coverage.  When we're at Rayjay and on ESPNHD I'm sure there is better equipment to see these weaknesses and correct.

FAU had a great gameplan to negate USF's defensive speed.  They ran right at the D, and ran a lot of misdirection plays off play-action.  That was also the worst tackling from USF's D that I can remember in a long time.

Also, FAU was sky high and USF was flat.  Not unexpected.  USF heard all week how great they were and how can they be exited to play FAU?  The situation set up perfectly for the Owls.

The good news is USF won.

This game should be a wake up call!  Yes we won, and won by a decent margin, but the team needs to play its game each and every time.  I thought there was a little let up this week.  Can't have that next week against UCF.
