Baseball Takes The Field Monday

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team will swing into the 2007-08 season with fall practice beginning Monday, Oct. 8, at Red McEwen Field.

Practice will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will last until approximately 5:30 p.m. daily throughout the fall.

In his second year at USF, head coach Lelo Prado plans to lead the baseball program to the national recognition they deserve.

"Jim Leavitt [uSF football coach] has put a lot pressure on us to win, but we put that pressure on ourselves as well. I believe the University of South Florida baseball program should be a Top-20 club every year. That's our goal, to build a program that every year we are really good." 

With 29 new players added to the roster this season, and a recruiting class ranked 43rd-best in the country by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the Bulls plan to find their niche and compete for the BIG EAST championship. 

"We have to work on team chemistry, getting everybody on the same page, getting everybody to believe in what we are trying to do and that's to go to Omaha and win BIG EAST championships," continued Prado. "I think that we are off to a great start. The kids have been awesome, and they have worked really hard up until now. If they keep that same attitude, we will be really good." 

Scout Day is scheduled at Red McEwen for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
