Softball Releases Non-Conference Opponents

TAMPA, Fla. – After revealing dates for the upcoming campaign earlier this year, head coach Ken Eriksen and the University of South Florida softball team unveiled their non-conference opponents for the 2008 season Thursday morning.

The Bulls have scheduled some of their toughest opponents to date, as 14 teams made an appearance in the 2007 NCAA Tournament and eight finished last season ranked in the top-25.

In addition, USF will be facing the reigning Women’s College World Series Champion Arizona and the runner-up, Tennessee.

USF’s first tournament of the season will feature the first of three meetings with long-time rival Florida, who made a Super Regional run in 2007 while finishing 14/15 in the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball polls.

After facing No. 2-ranked Tennessee and post-season participant Hofstra in the Best Western Invitational, the Bulls will host No. 21/22 South Carolina and No. 19/16 Georgia Tech, along with the Hofstra, in the Louisville Slugger Tournament.

USF will venture away from home for the first time Feb. 29-March 2 for the University of Arizona Tournament, facing the No. 1 team in the country, the Wildcats, along with No. 17/14 Virginia Tech.

The Bulls will return home and host three-straight tournaments from March 6-March 16. Highlighted opponents are NCAA participants NC State, Penn State and No. 10 LSU.

With tournament action wrapped up, USF will play the following NCAA postseason participants in doubleheader action: UMass, Canisius, LIU, Florida and Stetson.
