Bulls Go For Seventh Win At Pitt

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 12 University of South Florida men’s soccer team will seek its seventh overall win and second conference victory of the season when it travels to Pittsburgh to take on the 1-6-1 (0-2-0) Panthers Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The Bulls (6-1-0, 1-1-0) are coming off a weekend split in BIG EAST games in which the team defeated Providence 3-1, but fell to No. 2 UConn 2-1 in front of the biggest regular season crowd ever (2,431) at the USF Soccer Stadium.

Pittsburgh enters the match losing six of its last seven contests, including conference losses to Syracuse and St. John’s.  The Panthers garnered their first win of the season in a 2-1 overtime match against Saint Joseph’s on Sept. 17.  Captain Matt Langton and sophomore midfielder Matt Baker both scored their first goals of the season in the victory.

USF owns a 1-0-1 advantage over Pitt all-time.  The Bulls won the first-ever meeting 1-0 on Sept. 25, 2005 at Founders Field and ended tied 1-1 after two overtimes at home on Sept. 17 of last year.

In outscoring opponents 19-6 through seven games, the Bulls boast the fourth-highest scoring offense in the NCAA at 2.71 points per game.  USF leads the BIG EAST in goals (19), points (57) and assists (19).  Senior Simon Schoendorf and freshman Bernardo Anor continue to lead the league in individual points (6) and goals (3) for a match with their twin hat tricks against American on Sept. 15.  Junior Jordan Seabrook is tied for the lead in assists with the three he recorded in the American match.

The match against Pitt marks the third of four season meetings against BIG EAST Blue Division opponents for USF. The squad begins its 2007 Red Division slate at Louisville on Sat., Oct. 6.

The team will return to Tampa to face Villanova on Fri., Oct. 12 at 8 p.m.  Tickets to all USF home matches are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 16-and-under and $2 for groups of 10 or more.  Spectators will have the opportunity to get player and coach autographs at the conclusion of every home game down on the field.  Season ticket packages are also available.  Call 1-800-GoBulls or visit www.GoUSFBulls.com for details.

Fans can also catch all home games on the USF Press Pass.  Live video and audio streaming is available for all matches played in the USF Soccer Stadium with Jim Henderson delivering the play-by-play call.
