Week 5

1) USF's Game

FRI 09/28 - #5 West Virginia (4-0, 0-0) at #18 USF (3-0, 0-0) - 8:00pm [ESPN2]

2) Games involving one or more schools on USF's 2006 schedule.

SAT 09/29 - North Carolina (1-3, 0-1) at #17 Virginia Tech (3-1, 0-0) - 12:00pm [GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - Akron (2-2, 1-0) at #36 Connecticut (4-0, 1-0) - 12:00pm [GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - Syracuse  (1-3, 1-0) at Miami, OH (1-3, 1-0) - 3:00pm

SAT 09/29 - Florida Atlantic (3-1, 2-0) at #14 Kentucky (4-0, 1-0) - 1:00pm [GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - Appalachian State (3-1, 0-1) at Elon (2-1, 0-0) - 1:30pm

SAT 09/29 - Maryland (2-2, 0-1) at #10 Rutgers (3-0, 0-0) - 3:30pm [ABC]

SAT 09/29 - Louisville (2-2, 0-1) at NC State (1-3, 0-2) - 3:30pm [ESPNU]

SAT 09/29 - Louisiana-Lafayette (0-4, 0-1) at #35 UCF (3-1, 1-0) - 6:00pm

SAT 09/29 - Pittsburgh (2-2, 0-1) at #37 Virginia (3-1, 3-0) - 7:00m [ESPNU]

SAT 09/29 - Auburn (2-2, 0-1) at #4 Florida (4-0, 2-0) - 8:00pm [CBS]

SAT 09/29 - #24 Cincinnati (4-0, 0-0) at San Diego State (1-2, 0-0) - 10:00pm

3) Games involving Notre Dame because of its ties to Big East bowl games.

SAT 09/29 - Notre Dame (0-4) at #26 Purdue (4-0, 1-0) 12:00pm

4) Games involving teams two ranked teams and at least one of the teams is ranked higher than the 2nd highest Big East team.

If the highest and 2nd highest teams can move up and up the polls, then there is at least a chance that 2 Big East teams could make the 10 BCS slots.  Big East ranks: #5 West Virginia, #10 Rutgers

SAT 09/29 - #6 California (4-0, 1-0) at #11 Oregon (4-0, 1-0) - 3:30pm [ABC | GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - #28 Michigan State (4-0, 0-0) at #9 Wisconsin (4-0, 1-0) - 3:30pm

5) Games involving a Top 12 non-BCS team, or a Top 16 non-BCS team ranked higher than any BCS conference's highest ranked team.

If no teams from the non-BCS conferences make the BCS, then that would mean 4 at-large slots in the 5 BCS bowls.  This increases the chances for 2 Big East teams to be selected.

There are no non-BCS teams in the Top 16 of the AP poll.  Highest rated non-BCS team: #19 Hawaii

6) Other games of interest, including teams ranked near USF.

USF is #18 in the AP poll.

SAT 09/29 - #21 Penn State (3-1, 0-1) at Illinois (3-1, 1-0) - 12:00pm [big Ten Network]

SAT 09/29 - Mississippi State (3-1, 1-1) at #16 South Carolina (3-1, 1-1) - 12:30pm [Lincoln Financial | GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - Mississippi (1-3, 0-2) at #15 Georgia (3-1, 1-1) - 1:00pm

SAT 09/29 - Massachusetts (4-0, 2-0) at #12 Boston College (4-0, 3-0) - 1:00pm [ESPN360]

SAT 09/29 - Iowa State (1-3, 0-0) at #25 Nebraska (2-1, 0-0) - 2:05pm

SAT 09/29 - #13 Clemson (4-0, 2-0) at Georgia Tech (2-2, 0-2) - 3:30pm [ABC | GAMEPLAN]

SAT 09/29 - #22 Alabama (3-1, 2-1) at #34 Florida State (2-1, 0-1) - 5:00pm [CBS]

SAT 09/29 - #19 Hawaii (4-0, 1-0) at Idaho (1-3, 0-0) - 5:00pm

SAT 09/29 - #23 Arizona State (4-0, 1-0) at Stanford (1-2, 0-2) - 10:00pm [FSN]

Ranks used are AP rankings.

As if I needed more of reason to root against UF, we really need Auburn to get it together and start winning. I really hope the Tigers win that game.

Jim, just a suggestion... you might consider adjusting the criteria you use for including games under category 4).

Instead of:  4) Games involving teams two ranked teams and at least one of the teams is ranked higher than the 2nd highest Big East team.

Maybe:  4) Games involving a team ranked higher than the 2nd highest Big East team.

My suggestion stems from the reasoning that Kansas St @ #7 Texas is a game of interest because it could have a bearing on whether or not the BE gets 2 BSC slots. (Auburn @ #4 Florida would be too if it didn’t already show up under category 2))

Nice work either way.

1. Oklahoma(3) - 24

    Colorado - 17

Colorado is giving Oklahoma a fit right now, they should get one more chance, just missed a FG though.

2. K State - 7

    Texas (7) - 7

It's still early, but if K State could pull that upset, that would be huge.

3. Rutgers (10) - 3

    Maryland - 7

I am not sold on Rutgers. Maryland isn't great, but the toughest test they have faced all year. Torn on this one. A RU loss helps us in the polls, but hurts the big east and our SOS later in the season.

4. Mich St - 14

   Wisconsin(9) - 14

I know there is a games to watch thread, but we are getting to the point where this has to be general conversation here. Later you have USC playing a much improved Washington. UF going up against their first real defensive test against Auburn.

Either Cal or Oregon is going to drop also.

Could turn into a great week for the Bulls.

Rutgers is down to Maryland and they just mentioned USF and how we'll be the new Big East fav if Rutgers chokes.

Miss State played a hell of a game against S. Carolina. I dont think the Auburn loss to them was quite as bad as everyone thinks.  (also from the Auburn angle, K State is up on Texas right now)

GT is up on Clemson, who's ahead of us in the polls.

The rankings are going to be interesting this week if things keep going like they are...

Update: Watching pregame for FSU/Bama and they mentioned that for USF to have national title hopes that Rutgers needs to pull it together so that the matchup in 3 weeks is a "legit" matchup.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
