What is the best stadium in the state?

Posted on Sep 20, 2007 5:56:15 AM

After watching a game at UCF's new on-campus stadium Saturday, I've now been to games at every major venue in the state. You know what that means, right? Yep, time for Open Mike's first official list. Here are my rankings of the best football-watching venues in the state:

1. The Swamp: Most awe-inspiring atmosphere, most rabid fans, highest decibel level and great team. What more could you ask for?

2. Raymond James Stadium:  Most NFL stadiums are laid back and antiseptic, but this place rocks. The pirate ship in the end zone gives the place character that most NFL stadiums lack. Biggest drawback: Tampa Bay's offense.

3. Doak Campbell Stadium: When this place is jam-packed, which doesn't happen nearly enough, it's awesome -- especially at night. Chief Osceola planting the flaming spear at midfield before the game is the best tradition in college football.

4. Bright House Networks Stadium: I reserve the right to change my ranking if the stadium is only half-full for Saturday's game against Memphis. I'm basing my judgement on only one game -- the unbelievable stadium-opening game against Texas. If UCF fans go back to their traditionally apathetic selves and stop showing up at games, this becomes just another Conference USA cemetery.

5. (Tie) Dolphins Stadium, Jaguars Stadium (or whatever they call it): The Jaguars are already putting tarps over vast sections of empty seats and the Dolphins may have to do the same if they continue to stink out loud. Nothing worse than a boring NFL game in a dead stadium.

  6. Orange Bowl: Please spare me the hooey about Orange Bowl "mystique." Fans create mystique and this place is usually only half-full for UM games. Plus, it's a dump, the parking is terrible and the press box plugs don't work half the time.

7. Raymond James Stadium for USF games: I must admit I've never been to a USF game at the RayJay, but it's never good when you have 20,000 fans in a 65,000-seat stadium.

Any questions?

Those are my rankings, what are yours?

Guys, guys. It just means he's been to Raymond James for a Bucs game, but not a USF game. Not that hard to figure out ...

He said that he's been to every football venue in the state. Saying that he has never been to a USF game at Raymond James doesn't mean he has never been to a game at Raymond James, he made it clear he's been to Bucs games before so that means he was not lying about anything.

I don't think USF games at Raymond James should rank last though.

What is shocking is that with all the chickie-poo stuff about us being afraid to play them, he didn't bother to come over for the first game?? ........ What an ass clown.

Dear Mr. Bianchi:

Since you've never experienced a college game at RJS I'd like to invite you to one on October 13th.  Don't sweat the cost of the ticket.  It's on me.
