It certainly was a great game by our defense last year, but this is the question that always comes up when you talk about that game.  Here are the official stats.

Rushing

Steve Slaton  18 rushes for 43 yards

Pat White  15 rushes for 17 yards

Passing

Pat White  14/22 for 178 yards, 2 TDs/2 Ints

Overall Team Rushing

USF  84 yards

WVU  132 yards

We certainly shut down Pat White and Steve Slaton on the ground.  They can say the same thing as we only had 84 yards.  Passing wise it wasn't that great of a game by White, but we certainly didn't shut him down.  As far as total rushing yards, the reason why WVU has more is due to the end around by Darious Reynaud.  He had like a 50 yard run that would have been a score if Mike Jenkins hadn't chased him down.  Reynaud is a key figure for this WVU team.  He made plays through the air quite often versus the Bulls.

The one stat that stands out from every other one is the First Downs.  USF had 22 while WVU only had 13.  Other than that it was pretty close on most stats.

I was there and not sure if you could see it on TV, but they had this crazy mountain man standing in the endzone with a gun.  Every time something happened that crazy guy would shoot his gun.  It is amazing that our guys were able to do so well under fire.    Imagine what they will do at home.  I'm sure if that guy is running around at RJS with a gun the Tampa Cops will taser him on the spot.  ;D

Pat White got most of his passing yards when we were playing prevent D. He did get that one TD pass when Trae got burned but thats it. We played soft zone coverage towards the end of the game and his recievers got a lot of yac.

Since WVU's offense is really geared for success on the ground, I think we definitely shut them down and forced them away from their normal game plan.  There was only one other game where White threw as many passes as he did against us.

Stats aside, our defense really stepped up and made the plays.  That was the difference.

Steve Slaton's two worst games in college football were

2005 @ USF

2006 vs USF

And expecting his 3rd worse at the end of Sept.  ;D

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
