Per Brett's blog...........

QB Hill apparently no longer with USF

University of South Florida junior Carlton Hill, who was recruited to USF with hopes he would be the Bulls’ savior at quarterback, apparently is no longer on the team.

Hill missed his second consecutive day of practice Wednesday and when asked before Wednesday’s afternoon practice if he was still on the team, Hill said “I don’t know.â€Â

Hill’s dismissal from USF could be academically related.

Hill came to USF from Monticello Jefferson High School as one of the most highly rated recruits in USF history. He played quarterback and wide receiver as a true freshman in 2005.

After the 2005 season, USF coach Jim Leavitt instructed his staff they were “going to live and die†with Hill at quarterback. Then a couple of weeks before 2006 spring drills, Leavitt publicly pronounced Hill as USF’s starting quarterback.

However, Hill missed a great deal of that spring for academic reasons and transferred to Pearl River Community College, where he played quarterback and wide receiver last season. He returned to USF this season and started fall drills at free safety. However, Leavitt immediately moved him to wide receiver and then later back to quarterback.

Leavitt and USF offensive coordinator Greg Gregory both said last week Hill’s recent move back to quarterback was not because of starter Matt Grothe’s hip injury. Gregory added that Hill was fourth on the depth chart at quarterback.

We’ll check with Leavitt after practice about Hill’s status.

Have we ever seen Greg and Brett in the same room at the same time?  :)

I wish him the best.  Sometimes school is not for everyone, maybe the cfl or arena ball is in his future?

QB Hill no longer with Bulls

Quarterback Carlton Hill's second stint with USF's football team was even shorter than the first.

Hill, who returned to USF after a year at junior college, has not been with the team since school started Monday. He had practiced at three different positions in three weeks of practice, working most recently at quarterback. Hill was not registered for fall classes, according to the university registrar's office, suggesting the problem could be academic in nature.

Hill, who played sparingly as a freshman at USF in 2005, spent last season at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. He cannot transfer to another Division I-A program and play this year unless he has earned his associate of arts degree from Pearl River.

We'll have an update after talking with coach Jim Leavitt after practice.

Good reminder for fans of other teams and certain banned people that getting a bunch of recruits with a lot of stars next to their names doesn't mean that much. You still have to coach them, and even then some of them don't work out.

In all honesty I won't miss this kid at all. Don't need poor attitudes like that bogging down the program. Time to move on. Best of luck to him.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
