I'm glad Capogna has some experience, but hey...265 lbs. is a an exceedingly small center in 2007.

265 was standard for 1975, but going against the DT's & LB's he'll have this year will really put that to a test.

I'll be keeping a very close eye on him this season.

If Sampson Genus has really been as impressive as Leavitt says (and he must be since Leavitt is usually VERY guarded about saying anything positive about freshmen), I would like to see him get a crack at the #1 center spot.  He's a beast.  McCaskill too.

Yeah, I was hoping McCaskill or Genus or Schmidt would step up and take over at center because of Capogna being undersized.  I guess I have more faith in him this year with a year under his belt, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see one of the others emerge.

I am only slightly concerned about the O-line. I feel good about the experience.  I also attribute some of the sacks last year to the inexperience, but also the fact that we instituted a completely new blocking scheme last year.  Once the O-line gelled and picked up the zon blocking scheme they were pretty good.  We only had 5 sacks the last 5 games of the year.  Tht included games against WVU and UL.

Interesting thing I found regarding our opponents' pass defenses last year.  FIU finished 5th in the country in pass defense????  I guess because the other teams got leads on them and just ran the closk out the rest of the way.  That was kind of a surpise to see them there.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
