Grothe's Stature Is As Big As His Game

TAMPA - These days, Matt Grothe towers over Tampa. All around town Grothe can be seen peering down from billboards promoting the most anticipated football season in University of South Florida history.

However, it wasn't too long ago that Grothe - USF's BMOC and BMOB (Big Man On Billboards) - was buried on the Bulls' depth chart.

When he first arrived at USF in 2005, No. 8 not only was his jersey number but it was about where he ranked among USF's quarterbacks. After verbally committing before his senior year at Lake Gibson, the Bulls had at least five QBs say they were coming or considering transferring to USF.

"I thought we were going to have 10 quarterbacks at one point," Grothe said about that first year.

correct me if I am worng but didn't he wear number 13 his freashmen year and switched to #8 his RS Freshmen year ;)
