USF Women's Soccer Continues Exhibition Play Tuesday

TAMPA, FL - Following a victory over Tampa Saturday night, the University of South Florida women’s soccer team will travel to Orlando on August 20 for a 7 p.m. game against the Northern Illinois Huskies at the UCF Soccer Stadium.

Tuesday’s game will be NIU’s first outing of the season and the first-ever matchup with USF.

On Saturday, the Bulls looked to 2006 BIG EAST All-Conference forward Lindsay Brauer to lead the team past the Spartans as the Daytona Beach product scored the only goal of the game off a cross from sophomore Kaneile Thomas. Along with Brauer, USF also expects strong leadership from its three seniors – Autumn Browning, Jeannette Dyer and Paulina McIntosh – throughout the 2007 campaign.

NIU reached their first Mid American Conference Championship game in nearly a decade, posting an 8-11-2 overall and 5-6-0 MAC record in 2006. The Huskies lost only one starter and five letterwinners from that squad.

Tuesday’s game will be the Bulls’ second of three exhibition games this year. On Saturday, August 25, USF will return to Orlando to play the UCF Knights on their home field, the UCF Soccer Complex. The 7 p.m. weekend contest will wrap up the Bulls’ preseason play and prepare USF for their regular season opener on August 31 against Stetson in DeLand at 4 p.m.

USF’s home opener is September 28 when the Bulls face off against the preseason No. 10 Connecticut Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for that game are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 16-and-under and $2 for groups of 10 or more and are available on www.GoUSFBulls.com or by calling 1-800-GoBulls.  Season tickets are also available.

How are we predicted to do this season?  I'm not a soccer fan, but I want USF to do well in all sports.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
