its gonna take time.  i think we have gotten GREAT respect from the writers and media that have taken the time to look at our program.  i still think there are enough people out there in the media that still don't know much about us.

well atleast we got more votes then notre dame did.

i still think we crack the top 25 in both polls at some point this season.

I believe this is the FIRST TIME that USF has even received votes in the AP pre-season poll.  And even if I'm wrong about that ... this is by far the most points USF has had before the first game.

You are wrong, respect does not have to be earned to be in the polls.  Some teams are getting by on Name Recognition and History.  Take UM and FSU for example, both above us in the AP Poll.  If you took all 3 teams, and let's say, they only all had played one year of college football.  Last year.  Then you made up a poll for this year, you would have USF ahead of both of those teams.  Now you throw in all the history, BCS bowls, NCs of yesteryear, and of course now they are rated above.  Not because they are actually better right now at this very moment.  But because they get the benefit of the doubt based on prestige, history, and name recognition.  If what you mean by earned is building name recognition by big wins so we start getting the benefit of the doubt, then I guess you are correct.

Guys, we are 35th and 37th in the AP and Coaches poll.  Do I think that's low?  Yes, considering we ended the season 29th in the AP poll and got better at almost every single position (not DE, maybe not a LB spot or 2), including our weakness at RB where we now have 5 guys that could play.

However, in the AP poll we are ranked ahead of Virginia, Clemson, Texas Tech, NC State, and...Notre Dame.  Notre Dame.  That's impressive.

Anyway, if we beat Auburn we'll be ranked.  If we had lost to Auburn after being ranked we probably no longer would have gotten any votes.  We're pretty much in the same spot if we dropped or gained 5 spots.  I expected us to be top 30, but if we went undefeated in September alone we'd be in the top 20 at least (Auburn, UNC, WVU).

Yes, that is exactly what we mean.  Teams like FSU have EARNED respect from things they have done in the past 15 years.  So, even when they are having a fairly average year, most people will be drawn to them because of their name recognition.  Not too mention they have some pretty good recruits and revamped coaching staff so the media knows more about them.

There is a fair amount of media that don't know a whole lot about us, specially in the midwest or out west.
