they said the first major upset of the season will be West Va losing to USF two years in a row.

i guess that means they don't think we will beat Auburn.

or maybe, us beating Auburn doesn't count as a "major upset"  ;D

On the ESPNU Championship Series, Mark May and the boys have the first big upset of the year being USF over WV. Not very important, but kind of cool watching Mark May say USF would win... Especially for a guy who isnt to fond of the bulls!!!

Rezz, I saw that same thing earlier today.  They are 'playing' out the entire season, so they have a top 10 ranking.  In Week 3 they had WVU at #3, and USF beating the Mountaineers the following week.  As far as Auburn goes, they didn't discuss it since neither team was ranked in their Top 10 at that time.

How sweet would it be to beat WVU when they are ranked #3 in the country?  Pretty sure all the people that aren't on the USF bandwagon would start to take notice of the Bulls.

I'm afraid we might be losing this one big just because WVU raided our coaching staff. I remember how the Bucs dismantled the Raiders, in the Superbowl, in part because of Gruden's intricate knowledge of the Raider offense. Of course I want to be wrong so I hope you guys can talk me out of this concern.

It will all even out since they have to deal with Rod Smith's playcalling.  Our Coaches should be just fine.

Unfortunatly, I dont think Smith calls plays there, he just the QB coach, and does White throw, I dont think so!

Sorry but we upgraded our entire coaching staff, I don't think we have to worry about Rod Smith reading our offense. The guy is an idiot. The only reason our offense was mildly successful was because Coach Gregory had an important role in helping with the play calling. Coach Canales is better than Coach Dawsey and the players seem to think that Coach Simmonds is a better coach than Coach Frey.

simmonds was a head coach at iowa st wasnt he?

gotta be a pretty good coach to get a position like that in the big 12.

i dont think you can compare what gruden knew about the raiders to what smith might know about our offense.

if anything, he will be guessing the double reserve from our own 4 yardline all game

Simmonds was coach at Jefferson High School... McCarney was head coach at Iowa State...

Also, one thing to consider, is that WVU runs the spread offense, too.  It's not like these guys have never seen the USF offense... and I have to say that even if Frey and Smith would point out USF's offensive weaknesses -- it's not like they aren't obvious.  Moreover, those two never really got to see Mike Ford run.

Sure, if Matt Grothe can be flustered -- I don't think he can -- than Smith will know how to do it...

About the only thing USF will have to do is change up the hand signals on offense so Smith doesn't steal the play calling and give the defensive coaches a heads up.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
