Since we ARE competitive within the Big East, having beaten the past two conference champs in the past two years, wouldn't that imply he does not believe any of the teams in the Big East could compete with UF, FSU, and UM?

No, only bc, many people still believe that to be a fluke. Things may have been different if we would have beaten Rutgers at home...but like they said, until we get consistent, all of our big wins will be flukes...

Nah, I don't think so. Although the win over UL was considered a fluke for a while, since our win over UWV I have not heard ONE media outlet refer to our wins over UL and UWV as the continuation of flukes that people believe we have had over the years. Rather, they are now using them as a basis for their claims that our program is on the rise, which no one denies. I truly believe he personally does not consider it a big deal to have beaten UL and UWV over the past couple of years, so even if we continue to do so it will not generate respect in his mind. So, although he would agree that USF is on the rise he will still say that we cannot compete with UF, FSU, and UM because we are on the rise within the context of the Big East and our previous conference affiliations, which in his mind is not on the same level as UF, FSU, and UM. This mindset seems to span across a lot of the non-Big East fans and media. I think this stems from faith in tradition and past winning history, regardless of the current teams' record, which someone stated earlier in the thread was admittedly his viewpoint. This is certainly his and college football fans' prerogative, but then again, how many faith-based beliefs, football-related or otherwise, are logically sound and predictable? If people found thier opinions with qualified and quantified facts, that's another story.
