Consider this about Auburn... from ESPN

Sept. 28, 2006: Auburn 24, South Carolina 17. The favored Tigers begin the second half with a grinding, 17-play field goal drive for a 17-10 lead -- then turn right around and try an onside kick. Auburn recovers, keeps the ball the entirety of the third quarter and into the fourth, and scores against an exhausted defense for an insurmountable 24-10 advantage.

That call was certainly par for the course with Tuberville, but it also reflected a trick-play reality: Sometimes you just can't stop the other team and need to try something extraordinary.

"I told our team at halftime, 'I've seen enough of their quarterback,'" Tuberville recalled from that South Carolina game. "'I don't want to see him out there again. If we score, we're going to onside it.'"

Or a coach might be trying to jump-start his own problematic offense, giving it a short field and deflating the opposition.

CJL isn't afraid to call some trickeration plays either.  See Pitt from last year for a couple of fake punts, or the Louisville game from 2 years ago for some end arounds/passes.

The Louisville game definitely has some nice designed trick plays, but I don't think Teachy's fake punt were called. I'm pretty sure he just saw the opening and went.

one of the best trick plays happened in the Pitt game in 2001. The squib kickoff to the left sideline really set the tone early for our team in that pivotal game.

But I'll say this much-- it would kick butt to win a game outright without using a single trick play the entire way.

Maybe, but I'd bet Boise State may disagree.

JUST WIN!

I don't care how. Trick plays, bad calls, onside kicks, fake punts, injuries(although I would want them to be able to play the following week). Whatever it takes!

I don't think the halfback pass to AJ will work - they may have seen that one on film. But, ANYTHING else!

GO BULLS!

One was called, the other was not. If we go rugby style again this year I hope we run this fake a couple more times.

Kyle beat me to it...the first fake punt was not called, but the second was.

I don't think they used one against West Virginia last year.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
