McCaskill, Dampier accepted into USF

University of South Florida freshman NT Kyle Dampier and freshman LB Keith McCaskill have been accepted into school and are eligible to play this season, USF coach Jim Leavitt said Tuesday.

The players were admitted into school a day after Leavitt publicly expressed his frustrations over Dampier, McCaskill and Jerrell Young, a freshman defensive back, having been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse, but not accepted into the school. Young is still waiting to get accepted into school

Two other incoming freshmen – Charlton Sinclair and Corian Garrison – are still awaiting NCAA Clearinghouse approval, Leavitt said.

McCaskill, Dampier accepted at USF

Two incoming freshmen -- defensive tackle Kyle Dampier and linebacker Keith McCaskill -- were accepted for fall classes at USF on Tuesday, leaving the Bulls with only three remaining freshmen in academic limbo.

Defensive tackle Corian Garrison -- who will miss the upcoming season recovering from knee surgery -- and safety Charlton Sinclair have yet to be cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. And while safety Jerrell Young has been cleared by the NCAA, the reason he hasn't been accepted into USF is that he hasn't completed the application process. All three could still be cleared before fall classes begin later this month.

-- One more roster update: walk-on long-snapper Luke Birge, a redshirt freshman from Sebring, opted not to return for a second season with the Bulls. Birge said Tuesday he wanted to focus more on his classes -- USF returns two other snappers in walk-on Eric Setser and backup Darryl Dudding, with freshman Mike Walsh joining the team on Monday.
