PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Suddenly it's cool to be a Rutgers football fan. So cool, in fact, that the athletic department announced Wednesday that there will be no single-game tickets available for public sale this season.

With Rutgers coming off its best season ever in 2006 -- an 11-2 record and a bowl win over Kansas State -- the demand for tickets at 41,500-seat Rutgers Stadium is such that there is now a waiting list of close to 6,000 season ticket requests, athletic director Robert Mulcahy said.

Single-game tickets will be offered only to individuals on that waiting list, Mulcahy said. The school said it will try to offer each person on the waiting list the opportunity to buy tickets to one game this season.

"There is a tremendous need for those who want to be part of Rutgers football this season," Mulcahy said. "We understand we are not meeting the demand for tickets and hope to be able to accommodate Rutgers football fans in the near future."

Undergraduate students at the main campus in New Brunswick/Piscataway will be eligible for student tickets this season and should receive information about them by mid-August, the school said.

Rutgers will have eight home games this season. The Scarlet Knights open at home against Buffalo on Aug. 30.

What does that mean?  Temporary stands?  Passing views from a blimp?  If there are a finite number of tickets and surplus demand, sorry Rob, nothing you can do about it - especially in the near future.  Just ask the Bucs - they have a waiting list with 1,679,500 people (real and imagined) waiting patiently for tickets.

Good to see them sell out the season.  Is the next move stadium expansion, is that what he is trying to say could be near future?

no, i think what he's trying to say is that, once rutgers goes back to their customary 3 win seasons, then they won't be able to GIVE football tickets away.

This sounds like the definition of bandwagon. Oh, and way to pile on the cupcakes to the point where you have EIGHT home games.

I think the 6,000 will come in the 2nd half when Rutgers is losing Thursday night on October 18th  ;D

... way to pile on the cupcakes to the point where you have EIGHT home games.

Remember, they had been below average for years and schedules are done years in advance many times. But Norfolk St as your HomeComing ? Others are Maryland, Army & Navy along with mentioned Buffalo. Don't know for sure, but wouldn't suprise me if they did load up this season to take advantage of their "hype".

I think USF will average over 41,500 this season.

Go BULLS !!!

It's Norfolk State as their HOMECOMING in the third game of the season before they ever play an away game...that is some questionable motive...

If it's HOMECOMING, where the hell did they go?

After they fall on their face this year, they'll go back to giving them away.
