“It’s nice,’’ Leavitt said. “But we all know it comes down to playing. [A Top 25 ranking] has nothing to do with how you’re going to play.’’

Despite the best attempts by a room full of sports writers and loaded questions, USF coach Jim Leavitt says he feels “... he isn’t quite ready to put the Bulls in the same company of defending national champion Florida or traditional powers Miami and Florida State, both coming off very subpar seasons.

“If you want to be part of those three schools, you have to beat them,’’ Leavitt said. “Not play them, beat them.’’
