USF Volleyball Earns The GamePlan/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 19, 2007) – The University of South Florida volleyball team is one of 55 NCAA Division I schools that has earned the GamePlan/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2006-07 season, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association today.

“I am really proud of the academic accomplishments the volleyball team achieved this year,” said head coach Claire Lessinger.  “They were focused and goal oriented in and out of the classroom.  They took advantage of their academic resources and it paid off for each of them as individuals and as a team.  Their overall commitment to being student athletes has helped set a precedence for years to come.” 

“We pride ourselves in helping develop well rounded young women through academic, athletic, and personal success.  They have a lot to be proud of when reflecting on the 2006/ 2007 year.”

The award honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average. On the year, the Bulls recorded a grade-point-average of 3.33 and nine players posted a 3.0 GPA or better. In addition, the volleyball team’s 3.46 spring GPA was the highest among USF athletic teams.
