122 USF Student-Athletes Named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars

TAMPA, Fla. (July 13, 2007) – The BIG EAST Conference announced today that 122 University of South Florida student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Star Team for the 2006-07 academic year.

Athletes are eligible with a minimum 3.0 grade-point-average for both fall and spring semesters and have to earn a varsity letter in a BIG EAST sponsored sport. Football is not included because it has its own individual awards and sailing is not a sport sponsored by the league.

Every USF BIG EAST sponsored sport had a student-athlete named to the all-star team. Women’s cross country/track and field led the way with 33 athletes garnering the honor and softball finished second with 15 players on the list. Men’s and women’s soccer also had 10-or-more athletes on the list, with 13 from the women’s team and 10 from the men’s team on the list.
