The only reason would be for revenue. USF makes no money off students at Football games.

5,000 Students

x $12

$60,000 ... this would cover the "ticket tax"of about $2 and leave USF with $50K

This would cut our stadium lease payment almost in half. More students attending would only help. Going to a movie is about $10 and nowhere near the 4 hour entertainment value of USF Football, so I don't see a student ticket price stopping the STAMPEDE of students to support their team.

When USF does start this, think it would be a good idea to promote it to students that they can earn "credits" to become a season ticket holder. Some students are out of state or may not want to become a season ticket holder, but it would be a help for those that want to become season ticket holders.

I think we should start charging for the 2008 season.

The per-game cost to USF starts at $105, 000 this fall and increases by $10, 000 each year.

Unlike other schools in the state, USF is having a hard time getting their student body out for FREE games, let alone if they charged $$$$$.

Here's USF's student attendance through the years.

1997 - 2,661

1998 - 3,979

1999 - 3,145

2000 - 3,227

2001 - 2,871

2002 - 3,659

2003 - 5,852

2004 - 3,560

2005 - 7,527

2006 - 4,773

Believe USF can start charging for student tix (not including Athletic Fee) only when demand starts to meet up and/or surpass supply. (Business pricing model 101).

Right now at RJS...there is PLENTY of supply/available student seating to handle those students that are currently interesting in USF football games at RJS.

If USF had an on-campus stadium...then just like UCF is starting this year, believe there would be a market for SELLING student tix.

USF makes a heck of a lot more money off students than $5 per ticket.

The reason tickets are free is because USF students - ALL USF students - pay a hefty Athletic Fee:

Tampa campus: $10.16 per hour plus $10 flat fee per semester

All other campuses: $5 flat fee per semester

So, if a full-time student at the main campus will pay $436.40 per year for 40 credits.  That's almost as much as buying a season ticket for every USF sport.

Oh - the athletic fees for comparison:

FAU - $13.75

UWF - $12.82

UCF - $11.09

FGCU - $10.54

UNF - $10.25

USF - $10.16

FIU - $9.66

FAMU - $8.90

FSU - $5.98

NCF - $2.30

UF - $1.90

FIU, UNF, and FGCU pay a $2 per credit hour "Changing NCAA Divisions Fee" as well.

FIU also has a $10 per semester flat fee.

UWF - $12.82

We pay 10.16 a credit hour. UF the only team in the state that charges gets 1.90 from their students. Even then it's only $70 tickets for the season accord to their website. ($7 a game)

Further, you charge $12 for a ticket take about 3,500 off that 5,000

K_L - I'll guarentee with WVU, UCF, and UL on the schedule we have more than 5,000 a game this year.

Dad, UWF used that fee to build a killer student rec center I believe.

They might, I live in Ohio.

I did a ticket project in 2004 and at the time UF was the only to pay. UCF might be charging because of the new stadium. K-L you can chime in now.

Ummm...try either:

3,000

x $12

$36,000

or

3,800

x $5

$19,000

I give USF enough of my money right now, as a student. Charging students would be a horrible idea....

Now, if we tried this scenario:

$7 tickets but that includes a $5 shirt - waiting on your seat before a game, that could be feasible within 5 years...

Link? I've never seen these numbers before.
