Inside Dish: Big 12 power struggle?

Posted: June 25, 2007

There is concern among Big 12 North Division schools that South Division schools will guide -- and eventually determine -- the hiring of the next league commissioner to protect the television revenue distribution plan. Under the current system, 50 percent is split among all 12 schools and 50 percent is paid according to number of TV appearances (see: Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M). The Big 12 must hire a commissioner who has the whole of the league -- not a few teams -- as his priority. A suggestion: SEC associate commissioner Mark Womack, who has served/learned under college football's most proactive and trend-setting commissioners (Roy Kramer, Mike Slive) . . . .

South Florida took a big step toward legitimizing its status with the Big Three in Florida by landing a five-year contract with Miami--and three of the games will be in Tampa. USF still can't get Florida or Florida State to agree to a home-and-home series, but the Miami contract shows how far the program has come since its inception just 10 years ago. . . .

UCLA already has 18 oral commitments for 2008 (only Texas has more), but two key battles against recruiting king and bitter rival Southern California--for RB Darrell Scott and OL Max Tuioti-Mariner--will indicate how far the Bruins have come. Many believe Scott--also being recruited by Texas, Michigan, Florida and Florida State--could eventually become the No.1 prospect in the country.

Would you want to play in Tampa against a team that could beat you....  However, if either team did play in Tampa, I would have to say the stadium would sell out and the crowd would be predominately FSU or UF fans.  All my neighbors are FSU or UF grads.

I expect some sell outs in the Miami Series.  It is almost a sure thing if both teams are in the top twenty-five.

We could be playing UM in ET's world! And I'll bet the farm we win!

Careful ET, no mistakes are allowed on here.

So, in your game, does Grothe throw for 3 or 4 td's?  bet UM doesn't evenget a first down until our third string is in with like 7:47 left in the third quarter.

I LOVE IT!

On the article, we're closer than we were last year. Not as close as we'll be next year.

GO BULLS!

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
