This is not directed at Voss, but I'd rather have a guy at QB with great understanding of the game and decision making ability than great athleticism.  If you have both like Grothe then that is a bonus.  Hopefully Voss will show us he has both one day.

Voss only threw for 1,000 some yards last year in high school.. based on the numbers, he just wasn't in a passing system, so as far as i'm concerned, he hasn't quite proven himself as a passer at that level.  I think the same knock came with pat julmiste coming from a running-based system in high school, and we all know how that translated to in college.

question is: what does USF expect from its passers? Voss wont give us the passing stability, but he may turn into a Pat White.. if that is so, are we going to turn into WVU offensively with Voss at QB?

Just an FYI- Pat was lucky to throw 5 passes a game in HS, Voss threw much more than that, and way more yards than Pat- also Alton distinguished himself at a number of passing camps through the years.  Alton was also a three year starter at QB.   The numbers thing, if you consider for throwing around 4,000 yards in his HS career paltry, really centers around the Gulf offense and the oddity of Pasco/Hernando HS football...with population shifts some schools like Gulf were at a disadvantage when it came to talent when playing the southern county teams.

Just throwing it out so some understand his stats a bit.

Not trying to call anyone dumb or anything, but if you're struggling to make grades in a public High school in Florida

what other conclusions can you jump too other than that person being well how do you put this...dumb!

I'm sure he is a great athlete, but being a great athlete doesn't necessarily correlate with intelligence.

So, if you want to defend the kid thats fine, but the bottom line is if your struggling to get C's in High School there is something to say about your mental accumen or lack thereof.

The crowned messiah of USF football, Marquel Blackwell, was once a partial qualifier.  For being, well 'dumb' he seemed to manage to accomplish a few things on the field for us.  I think Voss will be just fine, but the labels are always a nice way for a kid to start a career.

I'm  not saying he's dumb, but there is no question that there was a lack of discipline on his part. Hopefully, he gets his act together. To be a good leader, its not only how you carry yourself on the field but its how you carry yourself off the field.

Mean ???  A man is judged by what he does and how he does it.

Oh crap...I didn't realize I left out a word...I need to proofread before I post.

Honestly I meant to say I'm NOT saying he's dumb....if you look at the context of the statement it fits.

Seriously....I meant to put "Not" in there.

After watching tape on this kid play you can see that he will be a great athlete no matter what position he plays.  However, I would love to see him at QB right now b/c we need to have more depth at that position.

Definitely need the depth and he fits perfectly with the style of QB's we possess, good athlete, good arm...he could play elsewhere but he could also play QB since he's the type of player of Grothe and Gregory just not as polished.

Hopefullly, we are still able to redshirt him this year.  Gregory seems to be the best number two guy we have had in a while.  Although in a bad situation it is nice having a talented guy in the wings.
