Look at the comments from the Blog entry concerning the new walk-ons. Here is the quote from Greg.....

"Bill, I can tell you that Alton Voss is very close to posting the necessary test scores, and he took the test again on Saturday, as did several other signees. Those results will decide who is able to enroll with the freshman class for the second half of summer classes at the end of this month.

I did not see this.  I thought you were talking about his blog posting (not comments).  My bad.

Question though... this part "Alton Voss is very close to posting the necessary test scores, and he took the test again on Saturday" is what I question.  Did Alton receive the scores from his last exam?  Maybe he took the test again just to make sure... because he hasn't received his exam scores from May yet.

It has been a while, but I think the SAT and ACT exams are taken at different times and not necessarily on the same weekend.

Lastly, is there something that Greg does not know that Izzy Gould does?  The tone of Voss (in that article) seems to be different now than in the past, no?  And the article was written after he took his exam this past Saturday.

Regardless, I feel confident… especially after reading that article.

"Very close" doesn't mean anymore to the the NCAA than it does in a horse race.

Yeah but the last I checked Greg doesn't live with Voss.  At that time that was possibly the last bit of information he had to go by.  These things are sliding scales so my guess is he got what is perceived as a qualifying test score but needs to verify that in conjunction with his GPA he will be fine.  Sounds like, if reading correctly, that at worst Voss would need to quickly grab a summer course to override a grade from one core class he got as a junior.  However, right now they believe his test score his high enough so he won't have too.

As for Voss at QB, I hope so, he's very raw but very skilled.  He'll probably come in as one of the hardest throwing QB's we'll have seen, but just needs time to hone the skills.  With that being said Alton is an exceptional athlete, really, really exceptional when healthy running a low 4.5's at 6-2 215lbs, I remember seeing him run for a 50 yard TD when he reversed the field on a scramble and out ran the entire Pasco HS team to the corner of the end zone, suffice it to say Pasco had some quick DB's and none could beat him to the spot.  Honestly, if we sign a couple of good QB's this fall, or get early verbals, I would not be surprised if the staff moves Voss because he's such a phenomenal athlete and could absolutely excel at safety, or OLB....particularly now that Gregory looked so strong in the spring.

I hope and pray he qualifies. He needs to be there for practice ASAP and start to digest that playbook his redshirt year and be ready when his number is called

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
