I like what I hear.  Most of us have been wondering whether or not he will be eligible to play for USF this fall.

Voss believes it is a matter of when and not if the Clearinghouse will give him its blessing. He expects to hear by June 27, the day he plans to leave for USF. "I'm fine, " Voss said. "I'm not even worrying at all."

:)

Voss is working out with personal trainer Rob Oppedisano three times a week. They spend a lot of time working one-on-one with conditioning drills.

Voss has recovered from rehabbing a knee injury and Oppedisano has been impressed with his work ethic. Oppedisano warns that Voss' hopes of redshirting could die if one of his teammates is injured.

"He's lost a little speed but he'll get that back in no time, " Oppedisano said. "He's going to be looking real good. I know a lot of schools that were looking at him as an athlete. It's going to be hard to keep him off the field if someone gets hurt. He's a tremendous athlete."

This is very good news ! He's a very good athlete and sure he'll be RS'd and he will have the 2007 season, Spring and Fall of 2008 to settle in on a position.

Voss was a tremndous athlete! I was sad when his team got serial crushed by a huge freaking guy in the play-offs, and even sadder when he got injured.

He's going to make for an excelent back-up next year, and hopefull an excelent starter when grothee leaves.

The injuries not to bad as long as he heals up fine. He was most likely to be red shirted anyways. best of luck to him though.

I'm excited to see that we're thinking ahead.  It will be great when he becomes backup QB to Grothe.

Per Greg's blog, Alton took either the ACT or SAT again this past Saturday, so lets temper our expectations. Every athlete says that they will be eligible by the Fall. That being said, I hope Alton is right. Represent the NPR Voss!!!

That was back in early May. Greg wrote that on May 3rd.

One more recruiting update: Gulf quarterback Alton Voss said Wednesday he's optimistic of qualifying and being ready to report June 27 when freshmen head to campus to prepare for summer classes. Voss said he's one point shy of a qualifying score on the ACT exam, and he's taking the SAT this weekend. If he needs to, he has another shot at the ACT in June.

Fast forward and we now have...

Another concern was his ACT score. Voss said he achieved a qualifying score though he took one final crack at the test Saturday to be safe.

You are right that we need to wait for the official word.  However, in early May, things did not look well.  I feel MUCH better now...

Look at the comments from the Blog entry concerning the new walk-ons. Here is the quote from Greg.....

"Bill, I can tell you that Alton Voss is very close to posting the necessary test scores, and he took the test again on Saturday, as did several other signees. Those results will decide who is able to enroll with the freshman class for the second half of summer classes at the end of this month.
