USF Volleyball Unveils 2007 Schedule; Features 12 Home Matches

TAMPA, Fla. (June 11, 2007) – University of South Florida head volleyball coach Claire Lessinger unveiled the schedule for the 2007 campaign, which features five NCAA Tournament opponents and 12 home matches.

“I am really pleased with the 2007 schedule,” Lessinger said. “It is competitive and challenging. Our tournaments consist of various teams that will help prepare us for the rigors of our conference schedule. I am excited about the Western New York Invitational because it will allow our lone senior, Kristina Fabris, the opportunity to play close to home (Ontario, Canada) before she graduates.

“We are fortunate to host Louisville and Cincinnati, two BIG EAST powerhouses, opening conference weekend.  We also have the opportunity to play the 2006 Big East Regular Season Champion, St John’s, at home the final weekend. The team has worked extremely hard in the off season preparing for all the opponents we will face in 2007. We are anxious to get started.”

The five 2006 NCAA Tournament opponents the Bulls will play are Louisville, Long Island, Notre Dame, St. John’s and Florida A&M.

USF will participate in a total of three tournaments, two of which will be on the road during the opening weeks. The Bulls open the year Sept. 1-2 at the Western New York Invitational, which takes place at three different sites. USF will play at Buffalo and then travel to Niagara to play the Purple Eagles and Fordham.

After the Bulls travel to Wright State for the Raider Challenge Sept. 13-15, USF will open at home with the Best Western Invitational Sept. 13-15. Teams featured are in-state rival UCF, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and George Mason.

BIG EAST play will kick off at home for the Bulls on Sept. 21 and Sept. 23, when it takes on 2006 conference tournament champion Louisville and then Cincinnati on Sunday.

USF has a tough road schedule the remainder of the season, twice going on the road for two-straight weeks. Long Island, Rutgers, Syracuse, Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, DePaul and Notre Dame are the road teams USF will face.

The remainder of the home schedule features West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Florida Gulfcoast and North Florida. USF will conclude its conference slate at The Corral when welcomes UConn on Nov. 9 and St. John’s on Nov. 11.

The BIG EAST Tournament will be held Nov. 16-18 at Marquette. The Bulls will be looking to make their second-straight appearance in the event.

USF will play its home finale on Nov. 21 when it takes on FAMU at noon.
