Okay, is anyone else hearing me when I ask about the OTHER players that were drafted.  Anyone scared about our recruits getting drafted?!?!? AND some of them are pretty high up there...

Whats the skinny on this?  Do we have more?  Who are they?

Four more recruits were drafted:

Stephen Hunt-round 17

Junior Carlin-round 29

Derrick Stultz-round 38

Yoandy Barroso-round 46

In the reading I have done on the draft. It seems like if you are drafted outside of the first 15 rounds, as a high school senior, then the kid generally goes to college. That thinking seems to change when drafted after your junior college season. I hope we get to see these four guys as Bulls for the next three years. Go Bulls!!

There are rumors that we will bring in transfers, etc. But some of that is expected in baseball recruiting. If you sign to much talent, they get drafted high and you lose them. The guys that we had drafted high, the second, third round, etc there is a 95% chance(or higher) of them signing with the pro team. One of Lelos first interviews after taking the job he talked about this and said he tells his players/recruits if you are taken in the first 4 or 5 rounds of the draft, go pro since you might not have a shot at that much money again.

I saw that Davis Bilardello got drafted by the Cardinals too.  In fact, it was before Daniel Thomas (who also got drafted by the Cards).  I guess he wasn't on the team any longer and thats why he was not listed in the article.

It's a tough call, one thing that most people don't know is that when you are a high schooler that is drafted and signs with an MLB team, part of your contract includes tutition to attend the school you committed to.

ex: if a kid committed to USF under a full ride, they would get the 3400 (or so) times 4 for the four years they would have gotten under the scholarship from the MLB team in addition to their signing bonus.

A lot of kids use that money to take advantage of going to school in the offseason and still get an education.

Most college baseball players don't get a full ride though.  I think the average is something like 11 schollies for baseball team.  There was a pretty good article on ESPN.com the other day about limitations.  The Mississippi State Coach is speaking up against it.  Baseball has always got jipped when it comes to schollies.

I believe it's due to Title IX

11.78.

However, most MLB teams (the Yankees being the most notable) will compensate even if you don't have a scholarship.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
