I've said it on other boards regarding USF fan's enthusiasm and told them what a great feeling it is ... to be able to have watched the VERY first BULL Football game ! There are not many college football fans that can say this today.

And curious to know about other "recent" programs that started and what their Day One attendance was like. I am sure they dwarf in comparison to USF's.

Looking back on that evening, it was entertaining to see the Big Sombrero that full. I was really surprised that - as the season wore on - the place got less crowded. If someone can find the numbers, it would be nice to see what other schools 'outta the chute' numbers were like.

I thought that it was in the 50,000 range for the first game I was there and it was packed.

Official attendance was over 49,000.  A few friends of mine were in long lines at the box office at kickoff when they announced the game was sold out and they never got in.  They said there were still thousands of people outside trying to get in, but they were only letting in students at that point.  I think this was because the deal with the TSA was to not sell the end zones at all so that's when they cut it off but the overwhelming student turnout forced them to let the students spill over into the upper deck of one endzone.

I think this year USF will beat that, we will exceed 50,000 for the UCF game.  Top deck opens at Raymond James when we hit 40K I believe.

Okay - I meant the upper half of one endzone - there was an aisle splitting the endzones (and sides) about half way up and the students spilled over to that area, but they were not allowed in the lower endzone.

I still remember the goosebumps I got as Leavitt and the Team took the field for the first time with the "fireworks" going off. The crowd went crazy. We all looked around in amazement thinking "Is this really happening?" What a great day. In fact I just found my "You will always remember your first time" T-shirt the other day. Ahhhh....memories.
