Big Ben is our "QB" of the Defense and he's lead this team in Tackles the past 2 years. We'll have about 7 SR's on the Defensive 2 Deep, expecting a Top 10 D in many aspects.

ALL TIME RECORDS

Total Tackles

1. Mitchell 367 (1999-2002)

2. Nicholas 326 (2003-2006) (Had 2 Tackles in 2002)

3. Manns   317 (1997-2000)

4. Reed     301 (2000-2003)

5. Jones    285 (2000-2003)

?. Moffitt    231 (2004-2007)

Big Ben should end up #2 on this list. Prefer LB's over DB's on this career list.

Tackles for Loss

1. Nicholas  53.5    (2003-2006)

2. Walls      48    (1999-2002)

3. Royals    47.5 (2002-2005)

4. Jones      40    (2000-2003)

5. Hay        38    (1997-2000)

?. Moffitt      29    (2004-2007)

In our scheme, MLB won't get too many of the blitz packages where Moffitt move much higher, maybe 5th.

Selvie already has 14.5 and C. Robinson had 9 in their FR seasons.

Sacks

1. Nicholas           20     (2003-2006)

2. Royal           19.5   (2002-2005)

3. Pierson       18     (2001-2002)

4. Hay           17     (1997-2000)

5. Walls           14.5   (1999-2002)

?. C. Robinson  7      (2006-)

?. Selvie           5.5   (2006-)

Selvie and Robinson should move up this list weekly.

Interceptions

1. Reed         18 (2000-2003)

2. Williams  10  (2004-)

3. Henry        10 (1997-2000)

4. Manns         8  (1997-2000)

   Hemingway 8  (2000-2003)

Would love for Williams to move into the top spot. Jenkins only has 3 INT's, but lead team last year with breakups.

Tackles for Loss Yardage

1. Nicholas   217     (2003-2006)

2. Royal       190     (2002-2005)

3. Hay          160     (1997-2000)

4. Blount      134     (1998-2001)

5. Daley       133      (1999-2002)

Selvie had 56 & Robinson had 68 in the FR years.

Most Sack Yardage

1. Royal       137      (2002-2005)

2. Nicholas    137     (2003-2006)

3. Pierson    130      (2001-2002)

4. Hay          112      (1997-2000)

5. Kobel         91      (2001-2004)

We'll look more into this when the season starts.  ;)

Some Records that may fall for the 2007 Season...

Most Tackles - Season

1. Mitchell           117 (2002)

2. M. Jones     116 (2003)

3. Moffitt   112 (2006)

4. Mitchell           106 (2001)

5. A. Williams  102 (2001)

    Nicholas    102  (2006)

Would love to see another 100 plus tackle season from Moffitt.

Most Interceptions - Season

1. T. Williams   7 (2006)

   Reed            7 (2003)

2. Reed            6 (2002)

3. Hemingway  5 (2002)

   Reed            5 (2001)

   A. Henry     5 (2000)

   Manns            5 (1997)

Trae Williams is also tied for 2nd with 6 others with 2 INT's in a Game.

Hoping Williams and/or Jenkins breaks this record.

?. Moffitt         6.5   (2004-2007)

McKenzie was a tackling machine ISU.  I can't wait to see him in Wally's defense teaming up with Moffitt.  I'm feeling good about there not being a big dropoff from Nicholas and St. Louis.

Agree with you, especially after the Spring Game. And we still have the potential of Spires at LB also. We were high on him outta HS.

And your welcome Mama  ;)

Just from those stats alone that you posted, is it safe to say that Stephen Nicholas has been our best defensive player EVER? I would think so considering the records he doesn't hold, he trails Kawika Mitchell and Terrance Royal. I don't think Stephen is a replaceable LB, sorry.

Dude,

I'm sure many said that about Kawika, we had Nicholas ... regarding careers, it takes a while to know for sure.

I understand you thinking that we will be weaker at LB, but I disagree. I don't think we will lose a step.

Nicholas' FR season (only played first 3 games his first year and received a medical RS) in 2003 (Mitchell's last year was '02) he had started last 9 games and played in all 11. Was also a Freshman All American.

46 Tackles

11 For Loss

5.5 Sacks

C. Robinson started no games and played in all 13. Was Sporting News All-American.

28 Tackles

9 for Loss

7 Sacks

4 Forced Fumbles (Ties record with Moffitt-2005 & Selvie-2006)

And let's look at 2 of those Forced Fumbles ...

1. Sealed the Victory at UCF when they were driving for a tying score.

2. When sacking Pat White of WVU that Selvie ran in for TD.

I feel great about Robinson and T-Mac along with the other guys. We are much deeper at LB in 2007 than we were in '06.

Go BULLS !!!
