Jim Leavitt Announces Roster Moves for 2007 Season

TAMPA, FLA. (June 1, 2007) – University of South Florida running back Ricky Ponton and safety Danny Verpaele have been declared ineligible for the 2007 season, and Ponton has been granted his release to transfer to another university. Verpaele will remain enrolled at USF, head coach Jim Leavitt said today.

Leavitt also said placekicker Mike Benzer will no longer play football, but plans to focus on his academics while remaining enrolled at USF. Redshirt freshman linebacker LeBrandon Glover also plans to transfer.

Leavitt and USF officials will not make comments on these player matters.

Ponton is no suprise, but Verpaele...man he was the one that put the HURTING on the ECU QB at the PJ.com Bowl...

There is too much depth at LB. I think Glover saw that playing time and competition is too much at that spot.

He also had one of the biggest plays in the WVU game....Hit on Slaton that caused fumble at goal line.

Seems like Glover should have stuck it out at least one more season.

You never know what can happen over the course of one season & one offseason.

Oh well.  If he doesn't think he can do it, he's right.

well id rather be at a point where kids are transfering out because of depth then coming into the program as transfers because of lack of depth.
