It seems like every year we are going more and more out of state, slowly sneaking away from Florida.  Every recuiting story II read on scout.com seems to be about another Georgia player.  Are we trying to get to away from the Florida recruiting base?  Isn't this where it all was built up from?  I read an article about a recruit who mentioned he liked the USF built up the program using players from the immediate area.  I'm just wondering if going away from our past recruiting patterns will ever bite us in the butt???

Thoughts?  Questions?  Comments?  Dirty jokes?  Snide remarks?

(Can you tell I need football news very badly?)  ;D

I don't think it will bite us in the butt, I think what Leavitt is trying to do is to get connections in other rich recruiting areas as well.  A majority of our team is from this area or some part of Florida and I think it will stay that way.  Even the big 3 get players from out of state.

As of today we have three commitments for Feb. 2008.  They are:

TE - Ocala, FLORIDA

TE - Tampa, FLORIDA

LB - St. Petersburg, FLORIDA

We will never neglect our base.  That would be stupid.  But our base doesn't always supply all of our needs.  Only recruiting Florida would not be smart either.  Our coaches know what they are doing.

We need recruits from out of state. This can only help our program get better recruits in the future. Experiences and coaching get passed on by word of mouth to future college players from the same area. We need kids to want to come to USF from out of state!

Going out of state is a good thing.  Id love to get some of those big ol cornfed midwestern offensive linemen that usually go to the big 10 and big 12 schools.  The wider the pool of talent we get to select from the better.  Of course Florida will always be the straw that stirs our drink.

We'll always expand and look across the country . . . but will do our best to land the ones we want in state.

And we have recruited better, look how good our team was with the youth and most will be playing in 2008 also.

Go BULLS !!!

I'd much rather take Florida any day...look at what went to UF just from Lakeland - Chris Rainey and half of their state champ O-Line.

Are we trying to get away from the FL recruiting base?

Are you kidding?  Why would we leave one of the richest recruiting states, when it is our home state?  That is one of the dumbest things I've read on the site in a long time.

Recruiting is a crapshoot no matter what.  The more places we draw from the better.  No reason to neglect GA just because we have a good base in FL.  Get them both and more.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
