What is the base salary for MLB?

Base salary is in the mid $300K.  But let's not forget that minor league money is peanuts compared to big league money.  Avg major league salary is probably approaching $2mm.  But that average is not representative of most pro ball players.  The A-Rod and other $100mm contracts inflate that average.  

If a kid gets an opportunity to make $200K and up from the draft, I personally think they should take the cash and see what happens.  There aren't too many ball players that get drafted higher out of college than they were drafted out of high school (especially when they were drafted top 10 rounds out of high school).

A lot of kids get over used at the college level.  If your a good player and get offered good money, why not go play pro ball and get the best coaching and instruction at the highest level?

Sounds like Daniel Thomas is gone.  Maybe thats why he never pitched again after the injury.  Diaz will be an interesting case.
