The word "alumnus" simply means a former student.

American Heritage dictionary: "a male graduate or former student of a school, college, or university."

Merriam-Webster: "a person who has attended or has graduated from a particular school, college, or university."

OED: "The nurseling or pupil of any school, university, or other seat of learning. Also, a graduate or former student (chiefly U.S., esp. in pl.)."

I think they are saying that USF considers the word "alumni" as people that have graduated from USF.

correct. as part of the ALUMNI association, we count "alumni" as graduates, not former students.
