Merrell Dickey with the Alumni Association sent these numbers out recently:

Citrus                  967

Hernando           1,953

Hillsborough      50,627

Manatee             5,613

Pasco                 8,882

Pinellas             27,046

Polk                   6,961

Sarasota             5,423

Grand total   107,472

That may sound like a lot... but when you consider there are 3+ million people in those counties... that means for every Bull, there are 30 non-Bulls... (it's more than 20 to 1 in Hillsborough County, worse some of the others).

Just providing these numbers as an FYI.

are these people that are registered alums through the association (i.e. have paid to be part of the alum association) or alumni in general(i.e.  graduated from USF)?

Pretty sure, that its just general alumni.  I think I saw that we had only 20,000 or so as part of the Alumni Association.

JoeB you are correct... those numbers are total alumni living in the area.

The actual number of paid members is about 14,000 or so.  If you're not a member, consider joining today... if you are a member, thank you!!

WOW where do we all go!!!  I guess (hope) that number will grow quite a bit in the next few years, with the insane amount of people attending USF right now.

My wife and I have been putting off joining the Alum Association because we both went back to school (I came back to USF), but I think we will be joining soon.

OK! Here is a question for all of us. Why is Ray-Jay not sold out for every game?

That was the first question that popped into my head too :), but think that our football team is still young and many of those grads may have been from that era.

100,000 is not that many if you think about it.  it would take 65% of all alums in the tampa bay area to sell out RayJay.  That is just a crazy number.  Granted that's not including students, but it's still not a lot of people.

It's never been an issue about the amount of people that could go to a game..its just getting them there. More alumni should come ....its just a matter of time.  there are times when I think that we grew up a little too quickly....and then I laugh and think of the WVU game ;D

Given those numbers, I could not be any happier with our attendance numbers.  In order to sell out Taxpayer Stadium 6 out of every ten of our alumni that live with in driving distance would have to: 1) Like football 2) Like it enough to attend and pay for it 3) Have a means to pay for it 4) Have nothing else they would prefer to be doing 5) Not be working or meeting other obligations etc. I honestly thought we would have far more alumni living in the area, when you consider our total alumni, so seeing how few we actually have in the area makes me happy that we draw the way that we do.

I got these numbers from Merrill also.

It's frustrating, almost 7,000 in Polk county and we can only get 15-25 to show up for an after work social/get together.

Maybe this is the year we can turn in on in Polk.

If you want to be involved, contact me thru the Polk Alumni website.  We can use people with ideas like those on this board.
