Former USF Standout Jessica Dickson Signs With Houston Comets  

Tampa, FL (May 21, 2007) – Former University of South Florida women’s basketball standout Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) signed a contract with the Houston Comets of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Dickson signed with the Comets on May 18 after being one of the final two cuts of the Indiana Fever just two days prior.

Dickson, who was with the team for its 82-69 season opening loss to the Seattle Storm on Saturday but did not play, joins the team that fellow USF alumnae Wanda Guyton played for when she helped the Comets to its first two WNBA World Championships in 1997 and 1998.  

Dickson was selected with the eighth pick of the second round (21st pick overall) of the WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. She was then traded to the Fever on April 13 for a third round pick in the 2008 Draft before being released last week.

Dickson, who was named the teams Offensive Player of the Year at the programs recent end-of-the-year banquet, averaged 19.6 points per game which led the team and was second in the BIG EAST. For her efforts she was named first team All-BIG EAST and was a Kodak/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Region 1 selection.

Dickson ended her four-year career with the Bulls as the schools all-time leading scorer – male or female – with 2,402 career points, and is third among all collegiate women’s basketball players in state history.
