I was looking around the site trying to find info on what bowls we have a chance of being invited to if we go to one this year, and I came across this site.  It was posted only 3 days ago, so hopefully this isn't old news.  Not sure if this info is anywhere else on the board, but here is a breakdown of who gets who this year.  I had trouble finding this info earlier, which led me to think this is new info, so I'm sorry if this is old news.

Jim,

The MAC is an alternate if there are not enough BE or CUSA teams.

Shoot for the stars?  Man, I would love to go back to Charlotte!

Besides, we all know that the GAYtor bowl will not take us...they would grab someone else with a bigger draw.

If we went 11-1, Gator would take us (too good a story to pass up).  10-2 it would be a toss up, they probably take a big 12 team.  We should bring quite a few fans to Gator, I won't guess how many but a lot more than the PJC bowl.

My understanding is our bowl deals go through 09.  When does Tranghese start negotiating new deasl.  When are new deals announce.  How much lead time did we get last time for the bowls.  The BE should NOT settle for any joint tie ins with other conference.  (Gator/Sun)  The BE has enough leverage to demand a sole tie in with bowls (with ND of course).  Especially with another great year for the BE expected.

I would love to see us go to the Gator Bowl, however, even if we went 11-1 and we bring a lot of fans with us, for most of the USF fans it would be a "day trip".  Most of the bowls want teams that will have overnight stays, at least, in order to generate community revenue.

If we don't get the BE championship bowl or the Gator Bowl I would love to return to Charlotte.  The people there were great and made us feel right at home.

You are right, the current contracts are through the 2008-2009 season, because that is when the current BCS contracts end.  In recent years, bowls and conferences tended to wait to see what the "BCS" does first.

If I'm not mistaken, the current BCS contract was done AFTER the old one had expired.  That forced a re-shuffling of a lot of bowl contracts.

So, I would say that unless Bernie Machen (UF President) is able to really move the issue of a playoffs to be more than a "plus 1" system (which is what most people think will be the first playoff step), don't expect any movement on bowl contracts until AT LEAST the summer of 2008 if not the winter/spring of 2009.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
