Sanford Earns BIG EAST Honor Roll For 11 Ks At Seton Hall

TAMPA, Fla. (May 14, 2007) – University of South Florida freshman right handed pitcher Shawn Sanford has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending May 13.

Sanford, from Cinnaminson, N.J., made his third-career start for the Bulls in USF’s May 12 victory over Seton Hall, striking out a personal-best 11 Pirates. The Bulls won the game 8-2.

Sanford struck out his first four batters in the game, then rung up two more in both the third and sixth innings, on his way to the team and season-high mark. In his 29th appearance of the season, he struck out 11 of his 26 batters faced, allowing two hits and one run - for a 1.29 ERA - while walking two in 7.0 innings.

Sanford, who has 10 saves this season, is an NCBWA Stopper of the Year candidate, and is primarily a closer for USF.

Sanford and the Bulls host Stetson on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at Red McEwen Field, then will face league-leader St. John’s in the last conference series of the regular season, May 17-19 in Tampa.

It looks like we found another starter for next year.  So, with the information just coming out that Chris Delaney is a Senior and not a Junior, we'll have Daniel Thomas, Matt Quevedo, and Shawn Sanford as our weekend rotation for next year (as long as they all remain at USF).  We'll need to find a mid week starter and totally rebuild the bullpen.

Needs for next year:  One stud Starting Pitcher (Otero like), 3 Solid Relievers (Sanford like) and Power hitting  (Todd Frazier like, RU)

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
