Jones Records Consecutive Rounds Of 71 At NCAA Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. (May 12, 2007) – University of South Florida junior Christina Jones recorded consecutive 1-under-par 71s to lead the Bulls to a 17th-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships East Regional held at the University Club Golf Course in Baton Rouge, La.  

Jones tied for 36th in the event after her 76-71-71 – 218 performance at the tournament.

Duke made a come-from-behind surge, recording a 16-under-par on the final day, to win the NCAA East Regional title by two strokes. Duke's 844 was followed by UCLA's 846 and a 2-over-par 858 from Wake Forest.

UCLA's Sydnee Michaels won the East Regional, registering a 13-under-par 203. Michaels' teammate Tiffany Joh and Duke's Amanda Blumenherst tied for second at 206. Blumenherst who was tied for 16th after the second round, charged into the top three with a final round 9-under par 63.

USF senior Daniella Ronderos was seven strokes behind Jones, tying for 68th with her 9-over-par 77-73-75 – 225.  

Only three strokes separated the final three Bulls, as junior Kylene Pulley carded a 227, senior Jessica Buchta was at 228 and sophomore Gennifer Mendez ended with a 229. Buchta started the week with a 79, then registered a second-round 76 and ended with a 73 in the final round.
