SI.com's Take on Snake

I thought I have seen several other sources that said he ran in the 4.6s.  He's not that slow.  And at 232 lbs, he's not "that" small either.  The falcons sre high on him, that's all that matters.  He will be a solid NFL linbacker.

Hmm.  Zach Thomas is smaller,  than SN,and he has had 100 tackles 10 years in a row.  Derrick Brooks is exactly the same size.  I think I will take the word of Wally Burnham and the falcons staff over a bunch of internet posters about SN.

Yeah.....4.77 is what he ran at the combine according to ESPN.com.

He is not fast.  Average at best.

4.77 isn't bad if you're a 260 lb. linebacker.

And yes.....232 lbs. is indeed small in the NFL if you're not a 4.4 or a 4.5 guy.

Did you miss the whole point of the SI video and my agreement with it?

Undersized.....okay.

A little slow.......okay.

Undersized AND a little slow................yikes.  :-/

Does that usually happen after they're 22 or 23 years old?

News to me if it does.  Perhaps in extremely rare cases.

Now, the 19 year-old defensive tackle from Louisville I might believe.

Are we to believe with NFL training and conditioning that he won't bulk up to 240 or so and shave a few hundredths of a second off his time??

I would like to see the sources for the 4.6 times if you can remember where you saw them, the best i have seen was mid 4.7's or so.  Both Brooks and Thomas are in the 4.6 range.  I think snake can be a good NFL LB because he has great instincts and you cant teach that.  The only thing that really bothers me about him is he does have trouble getting off blocks at times and its only going to get harder in the NFL where offensive linmen are worlds better than college linemen.

Can't remember where I saw it now, sorry.  I was going off memory, so maybe I was wrong.

thats what i am getting at.....

that, and the fact that football is now HIS JOB!

he has all the time he needs to focus on getting bigger and faster, plus some of the best equipment to work with.

look at all the stories about guys who go down to that pre-combine camp in arizona and improve their 40 times and bench reps in just 2 months of working.

Snake won't top at his weight and speed until he is about 26-27

Exactly, he could top out at 240-245 and 4.65 in 2 or 3 years.  Don't people realize he will get better.  He has FULL time to concentrate on football now, instead of having to go to school.

Sure...and so does all his competition.

So the guys who ran 4.6's @ 245 lbs. will be running 4.5's @ 255 lbs, right?

::)

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
