Bball: Let's keep the 3 scholarships for next year

I'm willing to suffer as a fan next year, knowing that the future is bright. At this point, it is so difficult to find top talent. There is no reason to risk everything on prospects that might be marginal or a gamble. (Read Greg's latest blog entry about Carr.)

Let's say we do sign 3 players with the three scholarships: that's the future of the program right there, considering Gransberry is the only one graduating next year.

Let's get some walk-ons for next year and hope for the best.

Like Madonna sang in her song: "I'm keeping my 3 scholarships."

I don't like that idea...

We have something other teams don't have in gransberry... why waste his final year.  We have to do something now, this year.  To waste a talent like that building for next year is a crime.  We are talking about one of the most dominant rebounders we've seen here.

wait-- all we talked about for the first few years of CRMs tenure was how he had no bench and wasn't using his scholarships. You want that to continue? Come on-- bring in some new talent and let the new head coach show us someone who can contribute immediately. We will have more scholies next season and the next ... and so on....

What recruits are still available that as true freshman can make a difference for us next year?  Any Juco's left that can?

well a 310 center could certainly make a difference and he is available.  Just having him in there to spell gransberry would be huge.  We have no depth at the 5.

310 lbs is a lot of weight to carry up and down the court.  Is he fast enough or talented enough to play in the big east?  Just because he is big doesn't mean he can play.

I agree Dan, from what I've read about him he's not the most in shape which has led many teams to ignore him.

There is still plenty of time to land another couple of recruits. I am sure Coach Heath has more players that he is looking at that we haven't heard about yet.

The picture I saw of him seems to show him as not being obese.  Maybe not fit... but we need big men... and he doesn't have to be an offensive juggernaut... just take up space and body up the other bigs in the Big East... at least for the first year.  He can use the first year to get in shape.  and then come back and dominate.  If he were to drop even 20 lbs, which is doable, 290 at 6'10 or 6'11 is workable.

Heck 310 is workble for our immediate need.

We aren't going to get a polished center at this stage.  A project is all we really could get.  And there isn't anything wrong with that since we have a center.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
