USF Opens BIG EAST Tournament Thursday; BIG EAST Streaming Games Online

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 9, 2007) – The No. 2-seeded University of South Florida softball team will look to extend its season-high 10-game win streak and capture its first-ever BIG EAST title when it plays Pittsburgh in quarterfinal action on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.

The BIG EAST Championship takes place at the Belleville Softball Complex May 10-12 and the tournament format is single elimination.

The BIG EAST will be streaming live video of the quarterfinals and the semifinals on www.bigeast.tv. The service is free to all fans. The championship game will also be available online for a charge of $9.95.

The Bulls finished No. 2 in the conference for the second-straight season and open the tournament facing its opponent from a year ago – Pittsburgh. Last season the Panthers defeated USF, 2-1, in the tournament, eliminating the Bulls.  

The winner of the USF-Pitt game will play the winner of the Louisville/Syracuse game on Friday at 4 p.m. The Cardinals swept the Bulls earlier this season in Tampa, and both teams have always played each other close since becoming conference rivals in 2000. USF and Syracuse never had a chance to play their doubleheader this season due to a storm in the Northeast that forced the cancellation.
