I would rather be underrated than overrated anyday

I agree, but I think we could legitimately be considered top thirty - ~23.  I think at those levels it is very fuzzy anyway, so why not USF?

At any rate, how we are ranked at the end of the season is by far more important than going in.  I have no doubt we will see a number next to our name during the season.

I agree we should be ranked higher but I like when we are underdogs, Vegas pays better when unranked beats ranked teams. I feel this is the year we do get a mid season ranking, but I sure would like a nice big fat money line on some early games like Auburn

Where are all the knight fans bragging about their #86 ranking???  ;D

When it comes to OCS or attendance stats, they come out of the woodwork, but when it comes to their actual team they disappear.

When we should be upset with lower preseason rankings is when we are a legitimate national championship contender.  Being at the top and staying there is easier than starting lower and moving to the top, hoping that someone loses so you can take their place.

If we continue these winning ways, we'll find ourselves ranked higher each year at the beginning of the season as we will be EXPECTED to be a good team.

I like the way we're BUILDING a program and making progress each year.  The trend is definately up.

He must have gotten ahold of some really good "stuff".

I think we'll be ranked during the season, I'm just a little shocked that both FSU and Miami jumped us in this poll (after both struggled to reach the .500 mark last year).  I think FSU may have a good squad, but the new systems and assistant coaches will take some time to mesh.  But Miami?  I know lets not kid ourselves, they will be good again... but I don't see them bouncing back this year.

Although, isn't this a first? It's the second coach in a row to leave UM with NO probation or NCAA penalties?

#36 is a great ranking

With that #36 ranking we are ahead of some pretty good programs.

Purdue

'Bama

Oregon

Notre Dame

Minnesota

Just to name a few.

Well any ranking higher than the top 50 is basically a crap shoot. It is preseason, we're putting everything in place to get there eventually but I'm not sure how to predict this season with a young but seems to be improved defense and an offense that lost a great playmaker in Walker.

#36 is a fair preseason ranking for USF in my opinion. It will be interesting to see how Big East defenses adjust to Grothe this season, he IS the key to your season and top 25 aspirations.

#36 is NOT a "great ranking," in my opinion. We have been there and done that, already. We finished the year #29 in the AP and return basically the whole team. And the key guys we did lose we were able to replace with impact type players. I wish if these people were going to put out rankings they'd atleast do their homework.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
