USF Women’s Golf Selected For NCAA East Regional In Baton Rouge

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 30, 2007) – The NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee has announced the University of South Florida as one of the 21 teams selected to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships East Regional.

The East Regional, hosted by Louisiana State University, will be played May 10-12 at the University Club Golf Course in Baton Rouge, La.

The last time the women’s USF team played in a regional event was the 2005 season, when the Bulls carded a 20th place 319 in the Central Regional. Individually, Christina Jones tied for 25th in the 2006 East Regional last season.

Three regional tournaments – East, Central and West – will be conducted May 10-12 to determine the championships field.

Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies will apply. A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals.

Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional. The championships finals will be held May 22-25 at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission. With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
