Draw For NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships Announced Tuesday

TAMPA, Fla. (April 30, 2007) – The University of South Florida women’s tennis team will find out its draw for the 2007 NCAA Tennis Championships on Tuesday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET.  The field of 64, along with host sites, will be announced on ESPNews.  

As the BIG EAST Conference champion, the Bulls earned an automatic berth to the tournament; their seventh in team history.  The first two rounds of play will take place on campus sites from May 11-13.

Following regional finals, 16 teams will advance to Athens, Ga., for the tournament finals, beginning on May 18.

Last season, USF ousted No. 33 Maryland in the first round of the Championships, but could not survive fourth-seeded UF in the regional final, losing 4-0.

The Bulls were also represented in singles play for the first time in eight years, and in doubles for the first time in 21 years last season.  Courtney Vernon earned her first berth in singles after an undefeated 2006 campaign and the All-American team of Gabriela Duch and Neyssa Etienne garnered the first doubles selection since the tandem of Laurie-Ann Macgill and Cristina “Kiki” Rozwadowski in 1985.

The individual brackets for this year’s field will be released Wed., May 2 at approximately 5 p.m. ET on ncaasports.com.
